Kundasang War Memorial is a monument garden in Kundasang, located opposite the town center with a view facing Mount Kinabalu. Built in 1962 by a Kiwi war veteran (but completed in 2005 by Thai pensioneer Sevee Charuruks), the park commemorates Allied soldiers and Sabah natives that perished as a result of the Sandakan Death March towards the end of World War II (1945).
Divided into four gardens, each section represents a country of the victims (United Kingdom, Australia and Borneo) with the final masterpiece perched on the highest point - a beautiful pergola deck wrapped around a contemplation pool with column-lined balcony that overlooks the valley and mountain. The park opens daily from 8am-5.30pm; a small ticket fee is levied on visitors.
