Beaufort is a town in Sabah's Interior Division, located 100km southwest of Kota Kinabalu City between Sipitang and Kuala Penyu, but also near Pulau Labuan (48km to Menumbok). Home to a multi-ethnic group that includes Murut, Kadazan, Chinese and Brunei Malays, this peaceful destination is a gateway to Tenom by railway (50km).
This travel method is utilised mostly by tourists attempting Class III-IV white water rafting along Padas River that ends back at Beaufort. The surrounding wetlands and river tributaries are also famous for fishing 'Udang Galah', a local species of freshwater prawn. In town, explore the old railway station, wooden structures and local fruit market.
