The Chimney is a mysterious structure on Pulau Labuan, believed to have been built over a century ago (1900) when coal mining was at its peak on the island - yet, the inner walls of the chimney showed no traces of burning or being used as a ventilation shaft , for there was never a tunnel below its base. Hence, its original purpose remains a mystery.
Still, it was turned into a popular tourist attraction complete with museum and park. Located near the northern tip of Labuan at Tanjung Kubong, about 12km away from town, the structure and its museum is free to enter from 9am to 6pm daily. Also located nearby is Labuan Bird Park, a bird sanctuary with a small ticket fee.
