Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center is an Orang-Utan sanctuary located 25 km away from Sandakan. Opened since 1964, the center rescues these endemic primates from logging sites, plantations and being kept illegally as pets for release back to wild. Today, about 60-80 Orang-Utans live in the reserve that occupies part of the 4,300 hectare Kabili-Sepilok rainforest zone. Visitors may observe feeding sessions and a nursery area or explore the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Center next door.
